Need to make a change to your training contract?
We understand that life doesn’t always go to plan.
If something changes for you that affects your training contract, or if you experience a problem with your employer, you have options
Change your employer
If your employer can no longer deliver what was promised in your training contract, you can ask to work with a different employer.
Before you do so, it's important you speak to us so we can guide you through the process.
Keeping your promise
There are many reasons why you might be exploring changing employers. When you signed your training contract, you agreed to certain rights and obligations.
If something is not going well, it's important you speak with your employer before making a change. Mutual agreement is needed to change the contract.
Coming to a mutual agreement may not always be possible. Discuss your options with the Skills Infoline.
You can also speak with your Apprenticeship Network Provider who may be able to meet with you and your employer.
Update your training contract
If something happens that means you need to make a change to your training contract, you should first speak with your employer, training provider or both to reach an agreement on the changes required.
For example, you might want to suspend your training contract for personal reasons.
After the changes are signed by all parties involved, they can be submitted to Skills SA for processing.
If any of the parties to the agreement do not agree to the changes then the request needs to be submitted to the South Australian Skills Commission for mediation and resolution. The agreed resolution is sent back to Skills SA for processing.
Where a resolution cannot be achieved all parties to the agreement will be referred to the South Australian Employment Tribunal.
End your training contract
We understand that sometimes life events and circumstances can get in the way of your training, and this may mean you are considering ending your contract.
Here’s what you can do
- Speak to your employer or training provider to discuss making changes to your schedule to better suit your circumstances.
- Reach out for support or contact the Skills Infoline on 1800 673 097.
- If you still need to terminate your contract you should seek agreement on this from your employer and your training provider. Once you have their agreement you can submit a request to end your contract to Trainee and Apprentice Services.
